CV Design Tips: How to Make Your Resume Visually Appealing

In today's competitive job market, a good resume needs both strong content and appealing visual design. CV design plays a crucial role in forming the first impression.

Font selection

Use clean professional fonts like Arial, Calibri, or Roboto. Avoid decorative or handwriting-style fonts. Main body text should be 10-12pt, headings 14-16pt. Use bold only for headings and job titles.

Colors

Stick to one or two neutral colors maximum. Navy blue and charcoal gray are the safest, most professional choices. Use color sparingly for headings or sidebars.

White space

White space is a design element, not wasted space. Leave 2-2.5cm margins on all sides and adequate spacing between sections. Use thin separator lines between sections.

Layout

Choose single-column layout for ATS compatibility, or two-column for creative designs. Ensure consistent text alignment.

Images and graphics

Avoid photos unless required by local market. Don't use progress bars or charts for skills ratings—ATS systems cannot read them.

Save as PDF to preserve formatting across devices. Keep a DOCX version too for companies that require editable formats.
